A skill is a set of instructions you hand to Claude once. After that, Claude quietly follows them whenever the work matches — you don’t launch it, open it, or mention it by name.
1. Install it
Download the zip, then in the Claude app go to
Settings → Capabilities → Upload skill and pick the zip. Don’t unzip it
first. On Claude Code, unzip into ~/.claude/skills/ instead.
2. Just ask for what you want
Talk the way you’d talk to a co-worker. Claude picks the right skill on its own:
“Turn this carrier quote into a client proposal.”
“The Hendersons went quiet after I sent their quote. Write the follow-up text.”

3. Start a fresh chat after installing
Claude picks up newly added skills on the next conversation, not the one you already have open. If a skill seems ignored, this is almost always why.
Everything is in the download
There is no unlock step and nothing gets fetched later — the instructions and reference material are all in the file. If Claude ever tells you a skill looks incomplete or that files are missing, it is working from an old download. Grab the current one from this page and re-upload it, then start a new chat.
Some skills connect to outside systems (your AMS, a rating service) and need a key or login. Those say so on their own page, and Claude walks you through it the first time you use one.
